Golf legends Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson first met while working as caddies at Glen Garden Country Club in Fort Worth, TX. In December 1927 they squared off in the club's annual Caddie Championship as 15-year-olds. The two tied in regulation before Nelson edged Hogan by a stroke in an 18-hole playoff – he sank a 30-foot putt to clinch the victory – to begin a hometown rivalry that lasted for decades.
Today, the former Glen Garden Country Club is home to the award-winning TX Blended Whiskey and TX Bourbon. Produced by Firestone & Robertson Distilling Company, the brand is poised to become the largest whiskey distillery west of the Mississippi.
With the addition of five new buildings the property, now know as Whiskey Ranch, has a layout designed for guests to enjoy.
"The intent is to open it up at times to charities and private events," said co-owner Leonard Firestone. "We kept 18 holes — we had to reconfigure the course a little bit — but it was really important to us to preserve the history, because it's unlike any in the golf world."
